Wow. Pitching performance of the postseason thus far. I got pretty excited about the game 1 matchup between C.C. Sabathia and Cliff Lee. However, I certainly didn’t expect Lee to go the full 9 with him having to go up against such a powerful Yankees lineup. He got the complete game though: 9 IP, 0 ER, 10 Ks, and no walks. The one run the Yankees got was unearned because of a throwing error by Rollins trying to turn 2. I really liked his tempo. He doesn’t take much time between pitches. Instead he gets into a rhythm and doesn’t give the hitter much time to think. As the saying goes, “Rock and Fire!” Lee also had a nice defensive play when he gloved a sharp ground ball behind the back . After the game he said he’s never had nerves in the major leagues, it’s just something that’s he’s always wanted to do. By watching his manner tonight, it would be hard to disagree. There are alot of things I love to do, but put 50,000 people around me, and I’m going to have some nerves. In fact, I’ve heard some veteran players say that they still get nervous before every game. The point is that even if Lee was a little nervous, he didn’t let it get to him.
Chase Utley had two solo shots off of Sabathia. That was key for the Phillies to take the lead. C.C. also pitched well, going 7, striking out 6, and only giving up those 2.
Pedro is on the mound against Burnett tomorrow night. Looking forward to that as well.
